I pieced the extra amount into the waistband and the lining since those won't show (I always wear my shirts untucked). Last night, while watching Under the Greenwood Tree, I hand slip stitched the waistband to the lining. When I work with expensive fabrics (the lining), it inspires me to take more care in the garment construction, even if I dislike the actual process. Tonight, I'll sew on the hook and eye at the back waist and then only the hem will be left.
Anyone who looks at the construction of this garment will know it is handmade, especially since I don't have a serger, but that's fine with me. My priorities are fit and comfort. Having clothing that suits my personality and is a little different from what's on the racks runs a close third. Wearing clothes that look store bought is much farther down the list.
