I've gone back and forth for a long time on whether or not to participate in Self-Stitched-September. It looks like fun, and I enjoy a bit of a challenge, but I don't have that many self-stitched items, or at least, I don't feel like I have enough to make a wardrobe that fits into all the separate parts of my life. I also can't afford to go buying new/thrift shop fabric to make the needed clothes. But, participating in SSS '11 might help me see what I do have that is usable and give me a different perspective, so at the last minute, here I am, signing up. Perhaps, to be completely honest, what pushed me into the decision is that I received a new camera for my birthday (thanks, Dad!). SSS '11 doesn't sound like fun if there are no pictures. With my new camera, I can take self-portraits. Please be patient with picture quality while I learn how to best use this feature.
- I will catalogue all the items I have sewn/made/altered. This includes bags and jewelry.
- I will wear at least one of these items each day that work does not prevent it. Even when I am working at the restrictive jobs, I will endeavor to incorporate me-made jewelry or bags into my outfit, attempting to push the limits of what I have defined as appropriate
- I will note what gaps I have in my self-stitched wardrobe to help me focus and stay motivated as I learn to draft patterns to fill in these gaps.
I know this doesn't sound like a "real" challenge, especially compared to someone like Zoe who has all these clothes and skills to make a wardrobe, but it feels like a challenge to me, and I guess that's the point.
This is my first foray into self-stitched/me-made challenges and I have to start somewhere. Let's see where I end up.
